Actually, I'm pretty sure I've seen it on the links page before. I finally got up the courage to order some. I'm chronicling it on a blog. I didn't activate Google's AdSense or whatever because I'm not looking to make any money off of it. I also have no other links on the page, aside from the one for Colon Blow's website. I would like some people to be able to check out my experience. If I am to believe Snopes.com (which I do religiously ;) ), the turkey pardon did not really exist until George H.W. Bush's administration. So the only presidents to actually "pardon" a turkey have been two Bushes and one Clinton (so far). But the White House's website allows the deception to continue.Ê Note that Snopes acknowledges that a turkey "presentation" has happened since Truman, but no "pardon" until Bush I. The White House website's "photoessay" has put the header "The Annual Pardoning of the Thanksgiving Turkey" over each picture of a turkey presentation from Truman to W. The NIxon picture even has this caption: "Photograph of President Nixon receiving a Thanksgiving turkey from members during the annual pardoning ceremony" (italics mine).Ê Middle-agers and old-timers can tell you that they had never heard of this "tradition" before the late 1980s. It is kinda cute, but it is stupid. But probably only Barack (Mr. "I don't have to wear a flag lapel-pin)ÊObama as president could put an end to it.Ê
